Steven Aalders, born in Middelburg in 1959, is known for his precisely painted constructivist oil paintings, in which he engages with and develops the modernist concept of Piet Mondrian, De Stijl and American Minimal Art.

He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, at Croydon College of Art in London and at Ateliers 63 in Haarlem. After winning the Royal Award in Painting in 1986, he spent a year in Barcelona.

Aalders’ work has been included in private and public collections internationally, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Kröller-Müller Museum, the AkzoNobel Art Foundation and the Museum Kurhaus Kleve.
From 2021 to 2022, his exhibition “Seasons” was on display at the Kröller-Müller Museum, accompanied by a catalog that gives an overview of ten years of his work.

Steven Aalders lives and works in Amsterdam and is represented by Slewe Gallery in Amsterdam and Walter Storms Galerie in Munich.
