5th Kunstareal Festival in Munich

Free admission to all museums and six days full of supporting programs: that’s the Kunstareal-Fest 2021! The Kunstareal is located directly in the heart of Munich and is one of the most important cultural locations in Europe with its museums and universities. On an area of 500 x 500 meters – in the lively district Maxvorstadt – the visitor meets a unique combination of art and culture. From July 16 to 21, 2021, the 5th Kunstareal Festival will take place and invites all Munich residents and visitors to the city to an inspiring journey of exploration through 5,000 years of cultural history under the title “Blickpunkte”. Admission to all museums and participation in all program points is free of charge!

A must-see is the large solo exhibition in the Walter Storms Galerie with impressive, large-format photographs by Klaus Kinold, one of the most important architectural photographers of our time. Whether it’s buildings by Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank O. Gehry, Richard Meier or Carlo Scarpa, Klaus Kinold has documented them almost all. For this exhibition, he portrayed the German Pavilion, built in 1929 on the occasion of the World’s Fair in Barcelona, and the Tugendhat House in Brno, completed one year later. Both buildings are among Mies van der Rohe’s most important structures in Europe and are milestones of 20th century modern architecture.
