Inspired by the STOA169 in Polling, Upper Bavaria, the Munich artist Roland Fischer has realised the installation “Column for the 21st Century” in the office building [working.living HOUSE] of the Gilching South Industrial Park. STOA169 is an artists’ column hall initiated by the artist Bernd Zimmer. It brings together international artists in one place: more than 100 artists (including Roland Fischer), who were selected by a jury of experts, each designed a column, which together support a common roof. Roland Fischer’s six-metre-high “Column for the 21st Century” was based on the “Azrieli Center” in Tel Aviv, whose façade structure is reflected with its geometric shapes in the office building in Gilching. The motif was selected via the Walter Storms Gallery. Roland Fischer has already been inspired in the past by extraordinary buildings from all over the world for his series “Façades” (since 1997), to which this project also belongs. The “Kunst am Bau” object is open to the public during the building’s opening hours and can also be viewed at any time by anyone interested through the glass façade. A video was produced on the creation of the artwork, documenting the dimensions, background and technical realisation.
