Günther Uecker was one of the most active, successful and beloved figures of the German post-war art scene. His name is inextricably linked with the legendary Zero group and his iconic nail reliefs are highly regarded worldwide. Most recently, in January 2025, Uecker’s 4 tenmeter-high stained glass windows “Lichtbogen” were installed at Schwerin Cathedral in his native region of Mecklenburg. Uecker’s multifaceted body of work also includes stage and set designs for opera and theatre. As part of Open Art 2025, we are presenting a comprehensive exhibition of Uecker’s set design sketches and costume figurines for Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin, created for the Bayreuth Festival between 1979 and 1982. Since the beginning of our gallery’s work 1977, we have enjoyed a close and friendly collaboration with Günther Uecker and, in addition to our own exhibitions, have organized numerous international presentations of his work.
