Walter Storms Galerie presents the French painter Jean-Marc Bustamante as part of Various Others and Open Art 2024. Many people know Bustamante from his time as Professor of Painting at the Munich Art Academy from 2010 – 2016. He then worked as Director of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 2015-2018. He took part in documenta VIII, IX and X and designed the French pavilion at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2000. Today, Bustamante lives in Geneva and maintains a large studio there. He is represented there by Galerie Mezzanin.
For our current exhibition, Bustamante has created a new series of “Paintings for Munich”. On a grainy plaster base, he creates impasto, almost transparent marks, enigmatic graphic forms, vegetative elements that tell of nature and life.
