Viola Bittl, born in 1980, studied from 2004 to 2008 with Sean Scully in Munich and completed her studies as a master student of Christa Näher at the Städelschule Frankfurt. After an artist residency grant from the Hessian Cultural Foundation in New York (2017/2018), she was a fellow at the International Artists’ House Villa Concordia in Bamberg in 2024/2025. Bittl participated in the important survey exhibition Jetzt! Junge Malerei in Deutschland (2019/2020) held at the Kunstmuseen Bonn, Wiesbaden, Chemnitz, as well as the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. In 2024, the Städtisches Museum Emden presented an extensive solo exhibition of Viola Bittl’s work, accompanied by a catalogue. Since her first exhibition on Schellingstraße in 2024, Viola Bittl has been a regular artist in our gallery’s roster.
The current exhibition presents the results of her stay in Bamberg: six large-format paintings, two medium-sized paintings, as well as a few works on paper.
