The exhibition even colors depend on each other brings the works of Alex Katz and Günter Fruhtrunk into dialogue for the first time. Color serves as the starting point for this encounter, featuring approximately 20 graphic works by each artist alongside selected paintings on canvas.
For Günter Fruhtrunk, color is inseparable from rhythm, structure, and movement. His precisely arranged compositions of parallel and diagonal bands create a visual dynamism in which colors interact, contrast, and influence one another.
In Alex Katz’s work, color assumes an equally defining role. His radically reduced portraits, landscapes, and floral compositions are characterized by bold, clearly delineated areas of color. Through their interplay, Katz creates an immediate sense of presence, atmosphere, and space.
Despite their distinct visual languages, both artists explore color as an active force rather than a decorative element. Moving between abstraction and figuration, the exhibition reveals how color gains its intensity through relationships, contrasts, and the spaces in between.
