On the occasion of Gallery Weekend Berlin, we show selected works by Giorgio Griffa in partnership with Fondazione Giorgio Griffa and Xavier Hufkens.
Giorgio Griffa, born in 1936, lives in Turin and, with his long international artistic career, is considered one of the most significant painters of our time.
Characteristic of his entire body of work since the early 1970s is the way Griffa draws lines, places dots, and writes numbers and texts on fabric, linen, or cotton, fixing the canvases directly to the wall with fine needles, without stretcher frames.
Griffa’s work is marked by great asceticism and unpretentious modesty. His abstract elements appear self-evident, resembling musical scores, and can be understood as reflections on the status of painting.
Walter Storms Galerie has presented Giorgio Griffa since 1980. In Berlin, the gallery supported the exhibition of his “Golden Ratio” series in 2012 at the Mies van der Rohe Haus. In 2022 the Centre Pompidou did a comprehensive retrospective of Griffa’s work.
