He dominated the closing ceremony of the 1972 Olympics in Munich with his 400 m length rainbow. Light, movement, air, and fire \u2013 this is the stuff of which Piene\u2019s light installations and fire pictures are made.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Heinz Mack he founded the group ZERO in 1957. He was the director of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT from 1974 until 1994.
